The Governor General's Trophy is an Interprovincial double rink men's competition, played since 1874. Originally the final was played in the one-sheet rink at Rideau Hall, one game in the morning and one in the afternoon, using a cumulative points system to determine the winner.
Today, playdowns in the OVCA and Curling Quebec produce the two finalists. The final is traditionally played in Ottawa in conjunction with the Ladies Curling Association Lady Tweedsmuir double rink competition. A representative from the office of the Governor General of Canada attends the banquet and presents the trophies and pins to the participating teams.

Team St. Georges gets Quebec back on Jr Canadian curling podium with a Silver
From Left - Coach Michel St. Georges, Skip Laurie St. Georges, Third Cynthia St. Georges, Second Emily Riley, Lead Noémie Gauthier, Substitute Isabelle Thiboutot
At Shawinigan’s Club de Curling Grand-Mére the Laval sur le Lac curling club’s team St. Georges came away from the Canadian Junior curling championships as silver medalists following a 5-3 loss to Nova Scotia’s Kaitlyn Jones rink. The second-place finish gave Quebec its first medal at the Canadian Jr championships since 2004
As for the performance of the squad at the tournament coach Michel St. Georges said, “first they played great technically, based on success percentages, three of the members of the Quebec squad were on the two All-star teams. Second, it is the way they handled themselves in front of the home crowd, television, photographs, interviews…they showed maturity. Also the communication and strength of the group on and out the ice, they were a team. Finally, their sportsmanship, they represented Quebec with flying colors. They will be role models to the new generation of young curlers for years.”
Team Laurie St-Georges - Rock Stars would like to thank all sponsors, coaches, professionals, parents and club members for being helpful and part of our success. Among others the CCE and Curl Moncton with their summer camps now directed by Rick Perron, which Laurie, Cynthia and coach Mitch attended for many years. Those camps have been the foundation of our success and we recommend them to all competitive curlers.
